KATHMANDU- Director-General of the Department of Tourism Danduraj Ghimire said that Nepal’s tourism entrepreneurs and hoteliers have been encouraged to register with the Department of Tourism.

Informing the lawmakers about the progress of the tourism department in the current fiscal year at the meeting of the International Relations Committee at the House of Representatives, Director General Ghimire said that a system has been developed to register all hoteliers and tourism entrepreneurs in the department. He clarified that if the hoteliers and tourism entrepreneurs are not registered with the department, they will not be eligible for immigration registration and tourists will not come.

Ghimire also said that the department can track which tourist stays at which hotel. He said that the hotels registered with the department have developed a passport entry for tourists and information can be obtained from the information system immediately.

Chief Executive Officer of Nepal Tourism Board Dhananjay Regmi said that there is still no information on how many hotels there are in Nepal and how many rooms there are in them. He says there is a challenge in managing the information through a single platform. He informed that the Board has the challenge to work with a budget of Rs. 100 million in the coming fiscal year. In the meeting, the lawmakers said that more work needs to be done to attract tourists while protecting Nepal’s cultural sector. The lawmakers said that so far no work has been done for the development of Nepal’s tourism sector but a lot of budgets have been spent.
