Nepalayatimes/Nepal China India Women Everest Expedition
Kathmandu – For the first time in the history of Everest Expedition, three women from Nepal, India, and China are going to climb Mt. Everest this season as a team with an objective of empowering women in the region and spreading the message of universal peace and friendship.
This expedition will be guided by world-renowned mountaineer Mr. Pemba Dorje Sherpa who successfully climbed Mt. Everest 18 times as a leader and is a climber with 6 Guinness world records. He was also the Goodwill Ambassador of Nepal Tourism Year 2011.
Visit Nepal Year 2020 has supported this expedition to achieve their goal. The Team will be handed the VNY 2020 flag personally signed by the Rt. Hon’ble Prime Minister of Nepal Mr. K.P. Sharma Oli which they will host on the top of the mountain. It is expected that this Expedition will give the message to women of the region that women are capable of doing anything and inspire other women to come to Nepal for adventure activities.
The three women who are going to climb Mt. Everest are Ms. Kanchhi Maya Tamang from Nepal, Ms. Kalpana Dash from India and Ms. Liyamu Ma from China. Ms. Tamang from Nepal is the First Tamang Lady to successfully climb Mount Everest. She is involved in social cause with various organizations and is also Goodwill Ambassador of UN Women since 2017.
Ms. Dash is a qualified climber having climbing experience in India, Nepal, Europe, South America, and Australia. She also climbed Mt. Everest in 2008 as a team leader apart from climbing other six highest peaks of other continents.
Ms. Ma has previously led and climbed Everest, Manaslu, Lobuche, Mustakata. She is associated with the Crazy Mountain Expedition- China.
Mr. Mohan Krishna Sapkota, Secretary of Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation, Mr. Suraj Vaidya, National Convener, VNY Program Implementation Subcommittee and Mr. Deepak Raj Joshi, CEO, NTB handed over the VNY 2020 Flag along with the flag of three countries.
They are leaving today for Ramechap to take their flight to Lukla tomorrow.
