Nag Panchami Snake Worshiping Day: Why is it celebrate?

Kathmandu – Nag Panchami is a snake worshiping day in Hindu culture. Here Nag means a snake is worshiped in Hindu religion, basically in Nepal and Panchami is the fifth day after no moon day (Aunshi). Nag Panchami celebrate in Sharawan Panchanmi of no moon day (Aunshi).

Mythological beliefs about Nagpanchami

According to Mahabharata, Lord Krishna subjugated Nag Kalia and put an end to his evil deeds on the day of Shrawan Panchami. On this believe, people started celebrating this panchami as Nag Panchami.

 

On believe, while Kathmandu valley made like to stay human being with drained big lake by Manjushree, after that snake become anger. Then Human construct certain areas as pilgrimage destinations nags inside Kathmandu valley, and promise to worship them on the day, returning harmony in nature.

 

Lord Bhrama’s son Kashyap rishi had thirteen wives namely Aditi, Dit, Kadru, Danu, Arishta, Surasa, Sauravi, Vinata, Tamra, Krodhavasa, Ida, Khasa, and Muni. Aditi gave birth to Devta, Diti to Garud, Kadroo to Nags, Danu to Daitya. Those Nags were the rulers of Patal lok. All of them great eight nags are Ananta, Vashuki, Padhmanavha, Kambala, Shankhapala, Dhartarashtra, Takshaka, and Kaliya were very powerful and worshiped.

How is Nag Panchami celebrated ?

In this day, Nepali post Nags gesture above the doors of their homes in believe of to keep off evil spirits. They worship the nag by offering a Butter (Ghe), Milk, Honey (Maha), Chau Til. People drop milk and butter near snake mouth in posted picture. And People have believe that if Nag-Panchami is observed properly every year the Nags provide us good health wealth and blessing during our life. But if Nags become angry they make us sick, which haven’t any medicine to cure.

 

According to Hindu’s holly book (Puran) the earth is lifted by Shesh Nag on his head and nest Lord Vishnu is lying on its coil inside the Ocean, Among them Same nag are the very powerful Nags; Kali Nag, Bashuki Nag, Astha Nag, Padma Nag; and the Karkot Nags.
