Kathmandu – Minister for Forests and Environment Shakti Bahadur Basnet on Saturday stressed the need for increasing accommodative capacity of the central zoo, while praising its contribution to wildlife protection and conservation. “The zoo has protected a wide variety of wildlife species despite spreading in a small area, helping Nepal performing well in the field of conserving wildlife,” he said at a programme organised on the occasion of the 23rd anniversary of the Central Zoo.

Likewise, Ministry’s Secretary Dr. Bishwonath Oli pledged on behalf of the Ministry to provide necessary help for its management. Informing that a plan has been put in place to construct an animal park in all seven provinces, he stressed the need for developing the zoo as a resource centre.

The Zoo at present has 125 types of 1100 wild animals, birds, reptiles and fishes.
