Dhangadhi – On the occasion of International Women ‘s Day Campaign for Promotion of Community Paralegalism in Nepal ( CPCPN) three community Paralegals Ms. Sita B.K., Ms. Rita Parki and Ms. Samana Tamata were honored with Margaret Carroll Legal Empowerment Excellence award.
Chief guest and chairperson of ward number nine Dhangadhi sub metropolitan city Prem Bhandari and chair of the ceremony Ms Dharma Koli handed over certificates to the Paralegals at a function organized in Ghuyanghat the birth place of late veteran leader Tika Ram Parki.The three paralegals were honored for their exceptional contribution in promoting Paralegalism.
The women Paralegals have been conducting various outreach activities in their communities and involved in small savings schemes. Receiving the award the Paralegals said , ” Dalit women are the most marginalized group of Nepali society. Knowledge of law has made us self reliant and active citizens”.
Speaking on the occasion President of CPCPN Mr Prabhakar Bagchand said, gender and caste discrimintaion can be dismantled through legal empowerment. The day these two evils are uprooted every day would be women’s day, Nepal will be a just developed and a free society.
Mr Bagchand said, Mrs Margaret Carroll is a true humanist who loves Nepal it’s people and culture. She is an inspiration to many people like me who believe in justice.
Vice President of the organization Mr Amrit B.C. said, the award will serve as motivation for the Paralegals. Other speakers included ward member Ms Sharda Tamrakar. The program was chaired by Ms Dharma Koli.
