Kathmandu – President of Campaign for Promotion of Community Paralegalism ( CPCPN) Mr Prabhakar Bagchand handed over a certificate of appreciation to Ekta Publication House, National Sales Coordinator Ms Subhekchya Timothy today in Kathmandu.
Ekta Publishing House removed a question ” To which caste you were born?” from its class Three Social Studies text book.
Mr. Prabhakar Bagchand and advocate Sabina Kharel had jointly filed a petition on 11 February 2015 seeking removal of caste discriminatory content from the class three Social Studies text book. The honorable Apex court had quashed the writ.
However, Ekta Publication House removed the question from the chapter on caste system.
Thanking Ekta Publishing House, president of CPCPN Mr Prabhakar Bagchand said, it may appear like a small step but it is a giant step towards annihilation of caste system. Mr Bagchand commended the publishing house for it’s contribution to social transformation and quality education.
Social Studies text book of many private schools have chapter on caste system. The chapter explain about caste hierarchy namely Brahmin as the priest , Kshetryas as the warriors, Vaisya as traders and Shudras as untouchable the menial laborers.The exercise section have questions like which caste was called as untouchable? To which caste you were born?
To achieve the target set by Sustainable Development Goal 4(Quality Education) it is essential young minds are not polluted with the illogical caste system.It is important that all teaching and pedagogy must be founded on rational , scientific and secular principles Mr Bagchand said.
Mr Bagchand thanked Ekta Publishing House for their commendable work which will bring about sustainable societal change.
