Kathmandu – Minister for Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation Yogesh Bhattarai has said the passing away of the world record-holder mountaineer Angrita Sherpa has caused an irreparable loss in the mountain tourism sector of Nepal. Issuing a condolence message today on the demise of Sherpa, Tourism Minister Bhattarai has said the late Sherpa has made an important contribution to making Nepal’s identity to a high place in the international level.

Minister Bhattarai paid a heartfelt tribute to the veteran mountaineer of the ‘Snow Leopard’ fame and also prayed for the fortitude to the grief-stricken family. Angrita Sherpa passed away at the age of 72 at 11 am at Jorpati in Kathmandu on Monday. He holds the world record of the highest number of the ascent of Mt Everest. Angrita climbed the world’s highest mountain 10 times without using bottled oxygen. As per the decision of the Council of Ministers today, his funeral will be held with state honor.
